As the only Shanghai Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry category, in the past six years SHAFC has focused on the goal of the regional economic development strategy in Shanghai on the basis of the employment-oriented education mode and our college resources , which has formed its own advantages of Agriculture and Forestry majors and has characteristics of urban Agriculture and Forestry and Modern Biotechnology Application, including such major categories as Agriculture and Forestry, Biotechnology, Foodstuff, Electronics and Information, Economy and Trade, and Language and Culture, which constitute the layout of the major structure of coordinated development.

　　It offers 22 prospective majors with unique industry advantages such as Gardening, Horticulture, Animal Science and Technology, Animal Medicine, Biotechnology Application, Foodstuff Technique Inspection, Computer Application, Business English, Gardening Technology, Horticulture Technology, Animal Medicine and Property Management, Tourism Management, Exhibition Planning Management and some other majors.

　　SHAFC adheres to the education concept---- "Supreme quality, feature-oriented", and has the strong faculty in constructing a high-quality teaching team in combination with part-time senior industry engineers and craftsmen, in which there are 29 teachers with the professor, associate professor, and other high-level titles. Over 50% of the teachers have got master degree or higher degree. The main campus in Songjiang has such teaching and life infrastructure as teaching buildings, a complex building, a library, a gymnasium, plastic sports grounds, training base, the student housing of high standard, and campus network. A modern and opening-up agriculture Training Center , located in the Modern Agriculture Park of Songjiang, has advanced teaching facilities and equipment, beautiful and comfortable learning environment . SHAFC has the counterpart school exchange in France , Japan , Korea , Denmark and other countries. Meanwhile, SHAFC cooperates in running schools with the Shanghai Jiaotong University and China Agricultural University to provide students with a wide range of exchanges and various opportunities of the upgraded higher education.

　　SHAFC adheres to the higher vocational education concept----“Aiming at service, guiding to employment, following the path of development combining teaching and production”. Besides, SHAFC actively implements the reforms in the personnel training modes of college-enterprise cooperation such as the "integration" and "2 +1"model , and has established cooperative relations between high schools and enterprises with such more than 100 enterprises as Shanghai Flower Harbor, Shanghai Bright Diary Group, Shanghai Agricultural Exhibition Group , Shanghai Lu Jiazui Property Management Co. LTD, of which 59 have entered into a long-term and stable cooperation between high schools and enterprises , 30 listed as out-of-school training base to ensure that the graduates can adapt to the requirements to higher vocational talents in Shanghai's Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Husbandry Industry and the development of economic society.

　　SHAFC adheres to the higher vocational education concept----“Stressing connotation, promoting quality, creating features”,n ot only focusing on the construction of the curriculum system aiming at developing the ability in professional positions but also creating the real-task practical teaching system. On the basis of these systems SHAFC promotes the construction of key majors and excellent courses. Three courses “Garden Trees”, “Obstetric Animals” and “Landscape Planning and Design” have been rated excellent courses of Shanghai . In 2006, the Agriculture Department-owned identifying station of the agricultural vocational skills (agricultureNo.176) was rated “The national outstanding station”. Besides, SHAFC has built 46 experimental (training) labs for the construction of school training bases and has been trying to achieve the goals of being open, practical and professional in the teaching process in accordance with the authenticity of the production and the requirements to positions, which can let “students learn in post and teachers teach in the first”.

　　SHAFC has established the main teaching quality monitoring system assessed by college students, supervisors, teachers and society, and has effectively carried out many tasks such as teaching supervising, teaching evaluating, teacher assessing and society evaluating. Since students are both of high-quality and hands-on in ability and of high professional qualities, the employment rate of graduates in four years is more than 99.6 %, listed as the highest among the city's colleges and universities. And some students have won in many contests of national agricultural vocational skills as well as in “Shanghai Auto Cup” competition.

　　SHAFC actively carries out "three rural" social services. With the support of Shanghai Agriculture Commission and Shanghai Education Commission. , SHAFC has built a modern distant education system in the suburbs of Shanghai , forming the Satellite Education Network for farmers which consisted of a municipal teaching center, 10 districts, 105 township teaching units. SHAFC, as one of Western China's education consultant, has established aiding relations with the agricultural colleges of Yunnan , Beihai of Guangxi, Tianshui of Gansu and other regions. Organized by Shanghai Educational Association, SHAFC has carried out teacher training projects for Xinjiang and other places and has run training classes for village leaders in Dujiangyan , Sichuan Province in recent years.
